Extensive areas of this map of Africa are left entirely blank, but there is also a considerable amount of speculative material. The legendary Mountains of the Moon are prominent, regarded as a possible source for the Nile and one of the tributaries of the Niger. Further west, the mythical Mountains of Kong were mistakenly added to the map by James Rennell in 1798 to illustrate the travels of Mungo Park.
