This map of the London tube system has an unusual LNER Advertising Department ink stamp in the legend, indicating that the the map was authorised for display in LNER stations (such as King’s Cross, the LNER’s London terminus).
Fred Stingemore (1890-1954) was also responsible for the series of card folder maps which were given to passengers between 1925 and 1932. For these passenger maps he stripped away the surface topography, and the lines were slightly distorted to fit the available space (including some expansion of the central area). Stingemore’s posters, however, which were produced for display in stations, retained the principal parks, roads and other features at ground level, and they were more geographically precise.

Quad royal platform map, 100 x 126 cm (approx 40 x 50 inches), printed in colours, light original folds, some restoration to border edges, folds and fold intersections, blank verso. Printed in 4000 examples in May 1927. Published in London.
