Copper engraving, 49.5 x 55 cm, engraved by Guillaume de la Haye, original hand colour, blank verso. The final state of Robert de Vaugondy’s map of Roman Britain, which follows the map by Nicolas Sanson. Various additions include the Scilly Isles (Cassiterides), the road network and the signature ‘Groux’ to the cartouche; both the identity of Groux, and why his name was added to cartouches which were otherwise unaltered, remains mysterious (Pedley p. 67).
