Steel engraving, 25.5 x 33 cms, original outline colour; map of British America engraved by John Rapkin with black and white vignettes engraved by Robert Wallis after H. Warren, including Parry’s ships Fury and Hecla, and a view of Montreal; blank verso. John Tallis the younger (1817-76) is best remembered for his hugely popular Illustrated Atlas published serially from the mid 1840s onwards, and in its complete form in 1851. He died in penury and is buried in an unmarked grave.
