    This map was sent by ex prisoner of war mail from Lance Corporal van Dort, recuperating in hospital at Johore, to Private Gosling in Colchester. A pencilled message reads: ‘Dear Kim, I am sure you will be in ‘Blighty’ when you get this but you had a rum(?) time. I am ok and hope to move soon (anytime before Xmas)’. Read more

    Not the least curious thing about this ‘souvenir’ map printed for FEPOWs and other released internees in September 1945 is the coverage of the Burma-Thailand Railway, sometimes known as the Death Railway, between Bangkok and Moulmein. 63 Rep. Group was a mobile map reproduction unit operating with Fourteenth and Twelfth Armies through most of the Burma campaign.
