Lithograph, 19 x 24 cm, original hand colour in outline, blank verso; map of Australia published in ‘The General School Atlas of Modern Geography’ allegedly ‘embracing the most recent discoveries, revised by the Rev. D. Blair’. David Blair was one of several pseudonyms used by the radical schoolteacher, author, publisher and vegetarian Sir Richard Phillips, who died (bankrupt) in 1840. The Australian interior remained largely unmapped and only the Colony of South Australia is supplied with a border, the rest of the continent being divided between New Holland and New South Wales.
