As indicated by the headline, our example of this world map was published in Fullarton’s ‘Companion Atlas’, and it appeared later in his ‘Royal Illustrated Atlas’, which is perhaps the last great decorative work of this type published in the British Isles; it was issued in 27 parts from 1854-62 and first published as a complete atlas in 1864. Early examples were printed from an engraved steel plate, as here, later editions were printed lithographically. Inspired by Humbolt, the principal mountains of the world also show the distribution of plants by altitude, in the appropriate part of the globe.
