Josephus: Opera quae exstant, nempe Antiquitatum judaicarum libri XX, Sigismundo Gelenio interprete, De bello judaico libri VII (interprete, ut vulgo creditum est, Rufino Aquileiensi) quibus appendicis loco accessit De vita Josephi, Adversus Apionem libri II, ex interpretatione Rufini a Gelenio emendata, De Machabaeis, seu de imperio rationis liber I, cum paraphrasi Erasmi Roterodami […] Genevae [Geneva], apud Petrum Aubertum, 1634
Folio, pp. [viii], 1102, [xxviii]. Greek text with parallel Latin translations by Sigmund Gelen, Tyrannius Rufinus and Erasmus. Contemporary gilt-ruled vellum, arms of Amsterdam on the covers, slightly rubbed, later tan lettering piece to spine. Armorial bookplate of Rowland Clegg-Hill (1833-1895). Froben published the editio princeps of the 1st century CE Romano-Jewish historian Flavius Josephus in 1544. A Geneva edition followed in 1591, and ours is the third printing of this second version. Dibdin is fairly dissmissive, but there were no new editions until those of Thomas Ittig and Edward Bernard appeared simultaneously in 1691.
