This map of England and Wales was probably published in an edition of Bowen and Kitchin’s ‘Large English Atlas’. The cartouche features Neptune and Britannia, set among symbols of agricultural prosperity, science and commerce.
Condition & Materials
Copper engraving, two map sheets which have been joined, 118 x 101 cm, bright original hand colour, small inset map of the Scilly Isles and table of explanation, large uncoloured allegorical cartouche engraved by Anthony Walker, old folds, of which two are strengthened on the verso, which is blank.
