Map of northwestern Germany published in Thomas Kitchin’s ‘A General Atlas’; Kitchin died in 1784, but his name continued to appear although the atlas was published by Robert Sayer and his successors, Laurie and Whittle. Although he never visited, George III retained his heriditary role as Elector of Hanover (becoming King of Hanover after the Napoleonic Wars) and the personal union between the British crown and Hanover survived until the accession of Queen Victoria.
