According to the online resource Encyclopaedia Iranica, Abbas Sahab (1921-2000) was encouraged by his father and his teachers to draft maps from a remarkably young age: ‘considered by many as the father of modern Persian cartography… he established the SGDI [Sahab Geographic and Drafting Institute] in 1936 and spent the rest of his life expanding it’.
Condition & Materials
First edition (March 1960), sheet size 60 x 58 cm, printed in colours, text in Persian and English, blank verso, folding into publisher’s printed paper wrappers; price ticket on upper cover; date lightly pencilled in lower margin. Inset of Wakhan and Pamir, and illustrated with depictions of antiquities and figures in regional dress. A second edition was published in 1963.
