Full Description

Edward Stanford Ltd: Stanford’s London Atlas of Universal Geography. Quarto edition. Fifty Coloured Maps and an Alphabetical List of Names with Latitudes and Longitudes. Sixth Edition. London, 1906. 4to. pp. [v], 68 + 50 single-page maps, printed in colours, with blank versos. Publisher’s half morocco over green cloth boards, a little wear, all edges gilt. Ink ownership stamp of Sir Thomas Bazely (1829-1919), the 2nd Baronet, who succeeded to the title created for his Liberal, industrialist father in 1885.

The maps reflect British political preoccupations of the day: even in a ‘handy’ quarto format, a whole map sheet is devoted to the Russo-Afghan frontier.
