Lithograph, 34 x 51 cm, printed in colours, blank verso; area map of London prepared for the second edition of the London Atlas. Detailed maps of London were absent from the first edition, despite the name of the atlas.
Edward Stanford (senior) acquired the bulk of John Arrowsmith’s stock in 1874. His own version of the London Atlas of Universal Geography, published in 1887 and dedicated to Queen Victoria in the year of her Golden Jubilee, is considered to be his last significant work before his retirement. Later editions were revised in keeping with the latest information.
