A contemporary reviewer waxed lyrical: “How wonderful has been the growth and the development of the metropolis could not be better brought home to the imagination than by the new map of the County of London prepared by Mr. Edward Stanford. It is model of chartography, accurately constructed, and so admirably illustrated by strong contrasts in colour and type to be almost pictorial... One is struck... with the great expanses of open ground there are left within the confines of the county, mostly secured to the use of the public for ever, fortunately! Among them is the new Springfield Park at Clapton, duly noted and described."
