  • This map of Edinburgh is one of the town plans in Tallis’ hugely popular ‘Illustrated Atlas’ which was published serially from the mid 1840s onwards, and in its complete form in 1851.

    The map was engraved by John Rapkin. It includes a view of the city from the North West, with vignettes of the Scott Monument and Holyrood House, and the Burns Monument in the foreground, drawn and engraved by Henry Winkles. Read more

    Steel engraving, sheet size 36.5 x 52.8 cm,  modern hand colour, light toning to centrefold, clear archival tape on verso where previously mounted, one or two small marginal chips and tears, blank verso. Read less
