Moorcroft, William & George Trebeck: Travels in the Himalayan provinces of Hindustan and the Panjab, in Ladakh and Kashmir; in Peshawar, Kabul, Kunduz, and Bokhara […] prepared for the press […] by Horace Hayman Wilson […] London: John Murray, 1841
First edition, 2 volumes, 8vo, pp. lvi, 459, [i]; viii, 508 2 lithographed frontispieces, both with some staining, short tears and adhesion damage, 1 folding map engraved by John Arrowsmith, laid on linen, faint ink stamp. Modern red half calf over marbled boards, marbled edges worn. Ownership signature to title, probably W. Phillips, dated 1844. Numerous ink stamps (on verso of frontispieces or at the endings of chapters etc) of the Victoria Jubilee Library, Karnal. Most of these have been covered by a neatly pasted slip of paper, and pasted over the first of these in volume I is the book label of Major C.H. Buck, Deputy Commissioner, Karnal, Punjab (presumably the individual responsible for the book’s final withdrawal). Buck’s ‘Annals of Karnal’ was printed in 1914; he was clearly of an antiquarian turn of mind. An ex library copy, but a scarce title.
