Wallis’ Guide For Strangers Through London

A practical and lovely guide to the streets of London

In stock

Engraved folding plan of London, 52.5 x 68 cm, dissected into 20 panels and laid on linen, publisher’s imprint appears to have been trimmed from the foot of the map when it was dissected (although Howgego does not specify an imprint for this edition), original hand colour, folding into original buff slipcase with printed label.

The alphabetical list of streets beneath corresponds with a lettered grid on the map. First published in 1824, revised and updated editions were issued until 1843. Wallis inherited his father’s business in 1818 and continued to publish geographical games and puzzles as well as more conventional maps such as this one. Howgego, Printed maps of London, 301 (2).
