Lithographed map of New Zealand, 26 x 18 cm, inset of Western Australia, original hand colour, blank verso, published in Samuel Butler’s ‘An Atlas of Modern Geography’.
The maps were reworked by Weller from Sidney Hall’s originals, first published in the 1820s. The map has been revised to show the provinces created under the New Zealand Constitution Act 1852, with the additional provinces of Hawke’s Bay and Marlborough which came into being 1858-59. Although the atlas was published in 1863, the map does not show Southland, formed from Otago in 1861. The provinces were abolished in the 1870s.
