  • This map of Kent with inset of Canterbury is dedicated to ‘His Grace ... John Tillotson ... Lord Archbishop of Canterbury ...’, a post he held 1691-94.

    The plate was engraved for Lea circa 1690, and the map is was published in Lea’s edition of Christopher Saxton’s atlas (commonly known as the Lea-Saxton or Saxton-Lea). In the 1570s Saxton had grouped the southeastern counties together, and an entirely new map was needed. Read more
