This map of Wales is from an edition of the pocket atlas which is often referred to as the ‘miniature Speed’: maps by Pieter van den Keere illustrated an abridged, small-format edition of Speed’s text, which Humble appears to have printed to coincide with editions of the larger atlas.
Continental pocket atlases such as the ‘Epitome’ of Ortelius’ ‘Theatrum’, and Mercator’s ‘Atlas Minor’ worked in much the same way.

Copper engraving, 8.5 x 12.3 cm, modern hand-colour, English text on verso; the sheet has been trimmed down, affecting the letterpress on the back but not the engraved area of the map. Read less
