Beck’s 1938 Passenger Map, No. 1

Beck’s 1938 passenger map features on its reverse an enlargement of the central London area with interchange stations named inside large diamonds. This is the last of Beck’s prewar card folders. 

The diagram is one of the most innovative and influential designs of the twentieth century.

Beck’s design was first published in 1933, and he remained directly associated with the map until 1960 except for a short period when responsibility for revising and updating passed to Hans Schleger; Beck regained control in 1941.

Tri-fold passenger map, printed area measures 15.5 x 22.8 cm. Printed in colours, only trivial signs of use.
