The poem and its early owner’s commentary

Rogers' poem was printed in both quarto and octavo formats in 1819, the year of its first publication. Eclipsed by some of his great contemporaries, Rogers was praised for the musicality of his verse, and his literary breakfasts were a feature of the social scene. An early owner has picked up on Rogers' comment on p. 81, that he 'would say something in favour of the old fashioned triplet, which I have ventured to use so often'. 41 times, according to the owner, who has noted each one in pencil in the margin, and counted.
