This map of Tehran features a legend in the borders listing 218 places of interest in the pre-Revolutionary city. The mapmaker’s own premises are identified within a red oval in the right hand part of the map.
Abbas (1921-2000) was encouraged by his father and his teachers to draft maps from a remarkably young age: ‘considered by many as the father of modern Persian cartography... he established the SGDI [Sahab Geographic and Drafting Institute] in 1936 and spent the rest of his life expanding it’. Second edition, sheet size 48.5 x 68 cm, printed in colours, text in Persian and English, blank verso, folding into publisher’s colour printed paper wrappers; price stamped on front cover, tape mark to back cover. A first edition was published in 1958.
