Copper engraving, 49.5 x 57 cms, original hand colour to both town plan and prospect, blank verso. Oran, an important trading port and now Algeria’s second city, was governed by the Spanish between 1509 and 1708; our map was engraved on the occasion of its recapture from the Ottomans. It was sold to the Turks in 1792.
