The Opening of the New London Bridge by their most Gracious Majesties William the 4th & Queen Adelaide
Our print depicts the river pageant celebrating the opening of the bridge on August 1 1831; the key identifies the occupants of the flotilla of barges. George IV and Queen Adelaide attended a banquet in the pavilion which is visible on the bridge itself. The balloon was piloted by celebrated aeronaut Charles Green. Read more
New London Bridge, built alongside the existing medieval structure, was the last major project of architect John Rennie, built under the supervision of his son John Rennie the younger.
