Fifteenth-century Florentine astrologer and Neoplatonist philosopher Marsilio Ficino was among the most influential figures of the Italian Renaissance.

Ficino produced the first complete translation of Plato’s works, edited here by the Protestant theologian and scholar Simon Grynaeus, who held the post of professor of Greek at Basel.

Old ownership inscriptions and ink stamps to title: 19th century ink stamps of Dominican libraries in Le Havre and Rouen (presumably the Abbaye de Graville and the Couvent des Dominicains).
