Florus’ epitome of Roman history, largely based on Livy, ends early in the reign of Augustus (probably a century before Florus’ own birth). It was a popular text book in the early modern period, and Joannes Georgius Graevius’ variorum edition of Florus, incorporating the notes of Claude Saumaise, Johann Freinsheim and others, was first published in 1680. 2 volumes in 1, 8vo. pp. [xxii], 533, [iii] blank; 242, [c], 46 + allegorical frontispieces to each volume, engraved by Jan Goeree and Romeyn de Hooghe, and folding letterpress plate (transcribed inscription) printed in red and black; letterpress titles also printed in red and black and with numerous small illustrations in the text, many numismatic. Contemporary gilt-ruled vellum, slightly dusty, title inked to spine, lacks green ribbon ties; early ownership signature inked to title-page, possibly David Ramy.
