Foulis issued two versions of the Meditations of the Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius in the same year; both follow Richard Ibbetson’s edition, but they were formatted differently. Our example is in two parts: the original Greek text followed by a Latin translation; the other version is a single volume in parallel text (Greek text with Latin translation on the facing page). Ibbetson's edition was first published in Oxford in 1704; he was Archdeacon of Exeter at the time of his death in 1731. Read more
