This is one of the earliest obtainable views of Florence, derived from a lost engraving by Francesco Rosselli.
The woodcuts were created in the workshop of Michael Wolgemut and his stepson Wilhelm Pleydenwurff, possibly assisted by Albrecht Dürer (who was the godson of the book’s printer, Koberger). Read more
Hartmann Schedel's encylopedic ‘Liber Chronicarum’, widely known as the Nuremberg Chronicle, is deservedly one of the most famous incunables. As many as 2500 copies in either Latin or German may have been printed; it was instantly popular, widely distributed and hugely influential, perhaps the most significant illustrated secular work of the 15th century.
