  • The Evening News was responsible for coining the name ‘Bakerloo Line’ for the Baker Street and Waterloo Railway, and here the newspaper makes a relatively early reference to the 'tube', a nickname coined for the new deep-level tunnels.

    The earliest issue of this map anticipated the colour coding of lines on official UERL maps by several months. Later editions of the map, like this one, which was in circulation until at least 1910, were printed with black rather than blue text, and folded into buff rather than red covers.
