  • The May 1925 issue of Stingemore’s passenger map shows Wembley Exhibition Grounds, and its covers advertise the number of escalators and other amenities such as clear air and a comfortable seat.

Although the maps were roughly geographical, all surface topography (even the Thames in early editions, although it was Stingemore who later reinstated it as a point of reference) was omitted, and some some lines were twisted to fit into the available space.

The UERL (Underground Electric Railways Company of London) had experimented with small three-panel maps even before the First World War, but Stingemore’s series cemented the format and his maps are the ancestors of those given away at tube stations today.
