Map of the Great Western Railway and Connections
This map illustrates how the Great Western Railway connected resources such as coal fields, china clay and salt works with the rest of the country and the major ports at the beginning of the twentieth century. On a scroll in the lower left of the map, the GWR’s system is described as ‘adequately equipped for the conveyance of merchandise, mineral and live stock traffic’.
Condition & materials
Folding lithographed map, 95 x 95 cm, dissected into 32 panels and laid on linen, folding into slightly rubbed publisher’s blue cloth covers; dated June 1909 at the foot of the advertisement on the pastedown. Ownership signatures of W.Park(?) to cover and pastedown; another owner, EWH Powell, is named in block capitals.
