This map of Central Asia was published in ‘Smith’s new general atlas’, issued in various editions from 1808 onwards.

The engraver, Benjamin Smith, came to an unfortunate end: in 1817 he and fellow engraver Joseph Bye were convicted and hanged for forging Margate Bank notes.

Charles Smith (c.1768-1854) appears to have been no relation. His business flourished through three generations of the family, until taken over by George Philip in 1916.
